Accidental

An Accidental note or pitch which is not part of scale of the key signature most recently stated. These accidentals are indicated in the music notation by the sharp, flat, or natural sign.

A Sharp raises a note by one Semitone.

A natural cancels any previous sharp or flat.

A flat lowers a note by one Semitone.

Placement of Accidentals

Accidentals are always placed immediately to the left of a note. This is the same no matter if the notes stems are pointing up or down :
